“Aashray Hamara hai, ham begharo ka sahara hai”
Who are We?
Everyday thousands of people are seen sleeping under the open sky without a roof. Do we think, who are they? Where do they come from? Why are they without a home? Why isn't the government and other civil societies not working on ground? In pursuit of seeking these answers our journey to help the homeless started in 2000.
We brought the issue of homelessness to the public domain, demanding the government to accommodate them through basic services and welfare schemes. We did head-counting in 2001 of people sleeping on the pavements in Delhi and found close to 1,00,000 homeless people. Sharing homeless people’s experiences and struggles in media and courts, we successfully created and crafted sound to bring it forth to the State’s agenda.
Since then we have been leading the Homeless Rights Campaign aka Aashray Adhikar Abhiyan with deep commitment and passion towards the cause. Our interventions and model shelters have impacted and continue to support millions of people.
To improve quality of life and ensure protection of rights of the homeless and other marginalized groups through shelter & rehabilitation, health, education, employment and citizenship entitlements.
To eradicate homelessness with hope and home
